EmRiver Journeys

I come from a long heritage of readers and writers that stretches back further than I know to look. Words taste familiar to me, a bearing of home. The miracle of communication is embodied in the vastness of language, and I marvel at this miracle and enjoy swimming in the water of words. Closely connected to that flowing river of expression is the vehicle of music, which is the language that has flowed fluently through me since I was born. I call her my mother tongue.
Music is powerful to lift, heal, cheer, inspire, bring people together, and provide a creative outlet. I’m grateful to have her flowing through my veins. My mother played the cello wonderfully so when I was in her womb I danced to the deep rich tones of her cello pressed right up against her swollen belly when she played. Once I emerged from those musical waters I was singing before I could speak. All through the rest of my life music has been for me how I process and make sense of the challenges and heartaches that come with being alive. I am able to connect to deep places and find courage and hope through the powerfully healing vibrations of music and I love to share that with others. Often what I share comes in its spontaneous raw form, just as it flowed out of me. That’s part of what I have to give, music and unpolished words that come in authenticity straight from the heart.
Here you will find some of my poems and pages ripped out of my journals, including links to some of my music.
